When you become pregnant, you should not think only about yourself as before pregnancy. Now, you should consider first about your baby in your womb. Your unborn baby should be your first priority because your every good or bad habit affects your baby. If you are habituated with smoking, drugs or alcohol, then you should avoid it completely for your healthy pregnancy and baby’s heath as well. You should not take any medicine or drugs or even herbal products without prescribed by your doctor. Pregnancy is a very complicated period and your any small mistake can make wrong effect on your pregnancy or baby. Many women are badly habituated with smoking, drugs and alcohol and it is not possible for them to quit it easily. In such case she needs good psychological and physical treatment from expert consultant to make her possible to quit such bad habits during pregnancy period. If your husband is also habituated with habits of smoking,tobacco or alcohol, it is also essential that he also quits it for your healthy pregnancy.
Effects of Smoking on Pregnancy
When you get pregnant, your lifestyle changes completely. Women from high society or celebrities are habituated to attend parties and take alcohol and smoking in late night parties and thus she gets badly habituated of it. In such case it is very difficult to change her lifestyle and habits when she becomes pregnant. First of all you should keep in the mind that while you and your partner plan for a baby it is your moral responsibilities to take complete care of your baby right from pregnancy stage.
If you do not quit smoking during your pregnancy period your baby has to bear many harmful chemical such as nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide. Due to effect of nicotine your blood vessels gets narrow that cause fewer amounts of oxygen and nutrients reach to your baby. Effect of carbon monoxide can cause insufficient amount of oxygen reach to your baby.
If you are smoking during pregnancy you may experience during pregnancy such as vaginal bleeding, placental abruption, placenta previa or an ectopic pregnancy or very low weight of baby at the time of birth or stillbirth i.e. fetal death of baby occurs just after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Risk of smoking can affect your baby even after birth. Your baby may suffer from asthma or sudden infant death syndrome called SIDS. This cause because your baby has to breathe harmful smoke of cigarettes smoked by you or your partner.
Now think that by smoking you are going to give birth or death to your baby. Quit your smoking habits before pregnancy will help you to quit it for lifetime. You can also guide your partner to quit smoking to prevent your baby.
Effects of Alcohol on Pregnancy
You just need to quit alcohol during pregnancy to prevent yourself from miscarriage or risk of premature delivery. Drinking habits affect your baby may cause mental retardation or fetal alcohol syndrome that is major physical, mental, and behavior problems in your baby.
When you take drink such as beer, wine, hard liquor or other alcoholic drinks during pregnancy, alcohol reaches to your blood and your baby’s blood. Normally, an adult person’s liver can break down alcohol, which is not possible for baby under your womb as her liver is still not developed properly. Therefore, it is very dangerous for your baby.
If you are badly habituated with drinking habits, you should consult your doctor to take help to give up drinking habits.
Effects of Drugs on Pregnancy
If you are taking any medicine or drugs during pregnancy it is strongly recommended that you should consult your doctor for taking such medicines. If you are habituated with any drugs before pregnancy you should avoid it for your baby’s health. Your illegal drugs habit can be harmful for your pregnancy. In early stage of pregnancy use of drugs may cause birth defects in your baby or increase chances for miscarriage. During last trimester of pregnancy use of illegal drugs can cause premature delivery or fetal death of baby. Illegal drugs such as Marijuana, Cocaine, Heroin and Methamphetamine can cause various bad effects on your baby such as slow growth of your baby in your womb, birth defects; behavioral problems stroke risk, brain damage, premature birth and miscarriage.
Woman with smoking, alcohol or drugs addiction cannot quit such habits instantly. She needs emotional support and medical consultation to get relief from it. They need proper treatment to get rid of it.
Therefore, it is advisable that when you plan for baby, you or your partner should get ready mentally to get rid of such bad habits that affect your baby.
If you cannot quit smoking, drinking or drugs during or after pregnancy, you should keep in mind that you are not going to give birth to your child, but indirectly you are going to give death to your baby. Now, it is in your hand to give birth to a healthy baby or give birth to a baby with defects that might be insufferable for entire life for your baby.
