Getting pregnant is like a boon. The journey from getting the news of your pregnancy, to delivering the baby is the most precious one. But, like all the journeys, this one also comes with its pre-requisites. When you come near the destination of your journey, you need to go through a painful procedure of delivery. And in case of a C- section procedure, there are few critical things which should be aware of.

During postpartum period mother should be provided extra physical and mental care as it is the most crucial time and any minute mistake can be harmful for both – mother and baby. Here are some of the aspects to keep in mind to take care post-pregnancy which would help the mother to heal and recover faster.
• Going to washroom or walking after giving birth is painful. You should walk slowly. Make all the arrangements of the things you will need after delivery and keep them close to you so that you can avoid movements of your body that can cause pain.
• Never feel shy to ask for help from your family. If you are single mother then make prior arrangements for a care taker and other necessary things
• Before consuming any kind of pain killer, you must consult the doctor.
• You should eat healthy fibre rich foods, which willimprove your digestion and possibly avert constipation.
• Avoid food that makes you gassy.

• You will experience lochia bleeding for around six weeks and it will cause pain.
• Keep yourself Hydrated to bear the pain and not getting dehydrated.
• The incision will heal after six weeks. During this time keep examining the wound to avoid infection.
• Breastfeeding will be a challenging task for you as it would sometimes cause pain. Consult the doctor for a workable solution
• It is possible you get emotional or depressed. Don’t worry, consult your doctor.
• Things you must avoid during this period - sex, use of tampons or douche, Exercising, using Public pools, hot tubs, heavy lifting, travelling and climbing stairs. You must resume it only when the doctor permits you.

When to call the doctor:
1) If you have Fever of over 100.4° F
2) Severe headache immediately after birth
3) Foul odor from vaginal discharge
4) Swollen, red, painful area in the leg
5) Burning urination or blood in the urine
6) Feeling Extremely heavy within an hour, or the passing of large clots
7) Sudden onset of pain in the incision
8) Sore, red, painful area on the breasts with flu-like symptoms
9) Feelings of anxiety, panic, and/or depression
Bringing a new life into this world is divine. A mother plays major role in it. Whether it is through a normal delivery or a C-section, enjoy the feeling and immerse in the motherhood and celebrate it.
