So 2015 has been a year of a different form of social media awakening in india. The number of Indians having smart phones has risen from 17% to 45% in just a year. Just a year! Out of which a majority of the consumers are women.
Not only that, this year India talked about many social causes, discussed it over different social platforms, had debates and voiced their opinions about women empowerment.
And yet these statistics will baffle you. In 2014, National Crime Records Bureau recorded almost 13,766 cases of child rape; 11,335 cases of ‘assault on girl child with intent to outrage her modesty;’ 4,593 cases of sexual harassment; 711 cases of ‘assault or use of criminal force on girl child with intent to disrobe;’ 88 cases of voyeurism and 1,091 cases of stalking.[Source]
Although India is making technological advancements, if we cannot save our girls, our boys from such awful experiences, are we really progressing?
One out of every kids in India is a victim of child abuse. So many of you reading might have a story of your own; a daunting experience of your childhood. Most of these cases involve a close family member or a known face.
This short film is unlike any other movies with a social message. Ashima Theatre sensitively narrates the plight of young kids who are often unaware of the abuse they are subjected to. As parents it is important to be honest and open. Do not shy away from answering your kids’ questions. If you think your child is impressionable and talks about love and physical adulation will affect their thinking, then imagine the chaos that will occur in their heads if they go through something so traumatic and have no idea how to deal with it. Knowledge and awareness can never bring chaos.
