Children are very innocent and they follow what they see around them. Normally, child follows his parents’ first, then other close family member and then friends when you send him to school. Therefore, as a parent, it is your responsibility to teach good behavior and disciplines to child from very small age. You need to make a habit that your child has to follow it. Good manners and disciplines are essential quality to be developed in your kids from childhood. Disciplines teach your child regarding difference between wrong and right. It is the continuous learning process to make your child capable to improve himself and understand what is right for him. You should teach good behavior and disciplines to your child very politely and skillfully. You do not need to get very strict and punish your child if he does not obey your instructions initially.

How to encourage your child for Good Behavior

Encourage child to behave well is a very competent job for parent. There are different family systems in India for example; some families are nuclear family, some family live jointly, some are only single parents, etc. In different situations parent need to act wisely and understand nature of their child before teach any behavior to him. In joint family, parent get more trouble if child get more love from their grand parents and do not obey instructions from parent as they are always protected from their grand parents. In such case parent needs to use positive strategies for encouraging good behavior in their child.

-    Understand your child’s Nature and Liking: First of all understand your child’s nature, what’s his liking and disliking, at what time he becomes very happy, what is his favorite food, what are abilities of your child, from whom he gets scar, what is his favorite thing. As a parent you should know such basic things help you to improve your child’s behavior.

-    Teach Good Manner Slowly: Make a daily schedule that your child needs to follow. For example, you should decide that your child must wake up before 7 o’clock. You can give his liking alarm clock in his room and set alarm for him. You can make habit of saying Good morning to mom, papa and other family members, then completing brush and other daily activities before come to breakfast table. You should keep fix time for breakfast. For example, if all family members can get ready at 8 o’clock, then you should make your child habituated to join all members on breakfast table.  You can also teach your child dining table manner like how to eat and teach some formal words, like sorry I am late, excuse me, May I, etc. It is essential to teach good behavior to your child, but remember you don’t need to make it like strict rule that your child need to follow. Sometimes strictness increases rudeness in child.

-    Consider your Child’s Age while Teaching Manner: you need to teach your child by considering his age. You cannot force your toddler to wake up early in the morning or sleep at fix time. Of course you can make schedule in such way that they automatically sleep and wake up at that time. You can also not force your little one to follow all instructions as per your expectation.

-    Compliment your Child for Good behavior: If you wish that your little one follow your instructions, you have to give good compliments to your kids. Kids always likes if someone praises them. If you tell your little one that you are my very good girl or boy and your work is very good and accurate. You can also praise him by saying that you are very good that you do all your work yourself. You can also give him small gifts occasionally for his good behavior to encourage him. You can also give him importance. Let him feel that his small deed is also very helpful to us. Thus, your child get respected feeling and obey your instructions. In such way your child follows your instructions and learns disciplines and good manners gradually.

-    Keep Patience and Listen your Child: If your child takes time to learn good behaviors, don’t get impatient. Think and find that what are reasons behind that and why he misbehaves with all? You need to understand child’s psychology and read his mind that what he is expecting from parent and others. You should discuss with him regarding the matter very friendly and then try to explain the matter. Give him justification if you cannot fulfill any of his requirements. Children always understand language of love. Listen your child quietly and understand his type of interest. If you mould your child with your love and patience, you can teach him many good lessons to make him good human being in life.

-    Spare Quality Time with your Child: You need to spare quality time with your child. In case of working parent, you need more attention during your stay at home. If you are a house wife, then you should not give pressure to child for following your instructions. You should give freedom to your child and understand his ability and liking activities. You can spare good time with your kid to encourage him in his liking activities to enhance his skill and confidence. Once your kid found your good behavior they definitely behave well with others.

-    Use Positive Strategies: Instead of saying No, don’t do this, or any negative sentence to teach manners and disciplines to your child, apply positive strategies. Children have a tendency to act instantly if you say No to them. Therefore, use positive language instead of negative one. You need to keep positive approach towards your child. Do not give more attention for any misbehavior and give compliments on small good job.

-    Parent should improve their Behavior First: Parent should also try to improve their behavior to make good impression on their child. Child always keeps watch on parent regarding their action and behavior. They just follow action and behavior of their parents. Therefore, it is very important for parent to behave well and create amicably atmosphere in home to teach good lessons to their child.

-    Teach with Fun: Teach your child with fun like by singing, dancing, playing, etc. Give good example or story while you teach manners. Join him in his play or dance. Create fun atmosphere while teaching him. It will give him more pleasure to learn. Do not expect to teach everything at once. Your child need time to learn. You need to guide him step-by-step according to his age.

Remember, you should always give freedom to your child as it is very important for his natural growth, but you should keep some boundaries that your child cannot cross it. As a responsible parent, your duty is to always keep watch on your child’s behaviors without his knowledge. Do not feel your child that you are keeping watch on him. Your watch is essential to prevent your child from leading him towards any wrong direction in the future. You can stop your child for any wrong behavior from beginning if he learns in school or from friends. Positive approach and polite attitudes are important factors for encouraging good behavior in your child.
