Emotional intelligence of your child

Emotional intelligence is often termed as the power to understand, assess and then control ones feelings. It is of utmost importance to understand your child’s emotional intelligence and to take steps to boost and encourage it. This helps your child to be self dependant.

Take turns to talk to your child and understand your child’s needs. Communication is the key to understanding. Always try and make your child feel that he/she is valuable to you. This grows your child’s confidence on you and allows your child to seek your help when in need.
This again provides you with an opportunity to increase your child’s emotional intelligence. Firstly, listen to your child and pay due respect to his/her feelings. Listening makes your child feel secured. Then wait and empathize with him/her. After your child shows relief in his/her words, you can go ahead and give him confidence. If required set boundaries but do not sound like you are imposing it on him. It is often that your child may have something silly to talk or something very important. You should always be patient and never panic.

Giving emotional confidence to your child helps your child’s maturity to grow, enhancing the chances of a successful growth.
