Wheezing in kids
Wheezing is caused by oscillation of opposing walls of a narrow airway prior to its closure. Wheezing can be high or low pitched. Wheezing can be identified by high pitched whistling when the child breathes out. It is in simple words characterized by blockage of air passage from lungs. The common causes of wheezing are asthma, Gastroesophageal Reflux, Bronchitis, Vocal Chord Dysfunction, Choking on a Foreign Object, cystic fibrosis. Wheezing can be characterized by Swelling of the mucosal lining, Excessive amounts of secretions, Bronchospasm, Respiratory tract infections. Radiographic examination bronchoscopy, pulmonary function testing, sweat chloride concentration are helpful tool in etiology of wheezing. If your child is feeling more and more sick due top wheezing and coughing you must see a doctor. Chocking in children must not be taken lightly as that may lead to respiratory arrest if neglected.
There are some household remedies which are also beneficial like roast turmeric powder and take with hot water, mix equal quantity of asafetida and camphor and drink with hot water, mix equal quantity of honey, butter, dry ginger, pepper, gooseberry and apply on chest before going to sleep, soak pieces of garlic in hot water and drink sip wise several times a day, etc.
