Does your child have hearing problem?

Many parents might be worried about the child’s health, if the baby does not respond appropriately to stimulus. If the baby does not respond to loud noises, the parents may begin to think the child has hearing loss. Appropriate screening should be conducted to determine if your apprehensions are true. There are certain symptoms which may point to hearing loss. For a baby of around 6 months, he should be able to respond to loud noises, wake up or cry on hearing such noises and turn head in the direction of noise.
For the babies between six months and a year, both the deaf and ones with normal hearing ability start to babble. At this age, the baby should identify when called by his name and being to understand what you are saying. As the child grows up, of he does not follow your instructions, turns the volume loud, the speech is unclear, or speech and language development is delayed, it is time you consult an experienced audiologist. Sometimes, the baby may have passed hearing screening test at birth, but may develop hearing problems later on. So it is best to consult an audiologist for screening, even though your paediatrician may not be too worried.
