DNA testing for family history

There are few diseases which get carried to the next generations through genes. These are called genetic diseases. A gene is a segment of the DNA found in the chromosomes which control growth, structure and characteristics of an individual. If the chromosomes get damaged due to factors like environment, exposure to dangerous rays etc abnormal genes in the chromosomes causes genetic diseases. Genetic disorders are called as genetic mutations which get transferred to offspring’s.

Why does one need to undergo genetic testing?

  • The occurrence of a disease can be found.
  • Necessary steps can be followed like changing lifestyle once known if there is a risk of occurrence of the disease.
  • It will be easy to create a treatment plan to understand the disease and perform them.
  • Respective medicines can be prescribed to prevent the disease

Though the choice of undergoing genetic testing is individual’s choice, prevention and treatment of genetic disorder to make vital changes for a healthy life is necessary. There are many disorders called adult-onset which develop with time and create a bad health. Under any form of symptom of disorder or presence of the disease in the family history, a genetic testing should be considered.
